Development of the basketball and volleyball court is a gesture of appreciation towards the community as host to the multimillion kina Port Moresby Sewerage Treatment Plant.
The sewerage treatment plant is 98% complete and will be launched during the APEC Leaders’ Summit in November by PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his Japanese counterpart, Prime Minister Shinz? Abe.
The facility was formally handed over to Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko on Wednesday (October 31) in a small but significant ceremony witnessed by the management teams of KCH, Eda Ranu, Japanese project developers Dai Nippon Construction and Hitachi JV, NJS Consulting Engineer and the community.
Tkatchenko thanked the development partners for the facility on behalf of the people and made a commitment to support a community tournament at the end of the year.
“I am making a commitment to sponsor a tournament in December that will be played on this very court. It is now upon the community leaders to organise themselves and send a proposal to the electorate office for funding. I also call on the people to take responsibility of the facility,” Tkatchenko said.
The sport facility lies in the centre of the community and will also be utilised for other communal activities.
