Wednesday Aug 6, 2014 – Work is continuing 24/7 unhindered by Morobe’s changeable weather, as the Lae Port Project nears completion of Phase 1. The K800 million project is now 96% complete and on target for a hand-over ceremony on September 29. This will be exactly two years since the ground-breaking ceremony.
IPBC visited the site last week and witnessed first-hand the work flow in both rain and shine.
The project includes a tidal basin, a multipurpose berth and terminal works with buildings, storage areas, roads, drainage, water, electricity, lighting and sewerage services.
Upon completion of Phase 1 there will be transition works before the commencement of Phase 2. It is anticipated that Phase 2 will then take another 2 years to complete.
Partners in the project are the Asia Development Bank, China Harbour Engineering Company, Korea Engineering Consultants Corporation and the PNG Government through the IPBC.
