Monday June 16, 2014 – As part of the Prequalification process interested contractors from Japan are in Port Moresby on a familiarization visit to the existing sewerage pump stations along the Port Moresby coast and the proposed sewerage treatment plant at Kilakila Site.
Several contractors took the opportunity last Thursday 12 June 2014 to visit the pump stations at Konedobu, Ela Beach and Kaugere accompanied by the team from the Port Moresby Sewerage System Upgrading Project (POMSSUP), the Japanese Supervising Consultant NJS and representatives from JICA.
POMSSUP Project Director Werner Gebauer explained that the contractors’ site visit forms a mandatory part of the Prequalification process.
“The potential applicants are here to make themselves familiar with the site, site particularities, like constraints, local conditions, infrastructure and locally available building materials for road construction and structural concrete, etc,” he said.
The Independent Public Business Corporation (IPBC) through POMSSUP advertised the tender prequalification notice for the sewerage project last month. This signals the formal tendering process for the POMSSUP construction works throughout the CBD and at the Kilakila STP.
It is expected that Invitation for Bids to bidders selected through the Prequalification process will be made in September 2014.
