Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from internationally reputable Independent Power Producers (IPPs) for the financing, engineering, procurement, construction and operation of the Ramu 2 Hydroelectric project (the Project).
Located in Yonki, Eastern Highlands Province in Papua New Guinea; the Project is a proposed new 180MW run-of-the-river hydro-generation plant to be constructed downstream from the existing Yonki Dam and Ramu 1 generation facilities using the same Yonki Dam water resource.
Ramu 2 Hydroelectric project is a project of national significance as it aims to harness the country’s water resource and optimise long-term, least-cost generation capacity for the growth and prosperity of Papua New Guinea and its people. A technical, social and environmental feasibility study on the Project has been completed.
Consistent with Government’s emphasis on private sector participation in the country’s power generation space; KCH aims to formalise a PPP modality within the calendar year 2016. The Government through KCH is now seeking to contract with a Consortium (single purpose entity) to deliver the Project. This reflects the government’s desire for a fully integrated approach whereby the Consortium is required to, as a minimum, design, construct, finance, operate and maintain the asset.
The EOI will be available from the 29 February 2016.
Interested parties are required to register their interest by sending an email to Ramu2project@kch.com.pg and include the following: 1) Title: Ramu 2 Hydroelectric Project- Independent Power Producers, 2) Organisation name, 3) Contact name, 4) Contact email address.
The EOI overview document can be accessed here.
EOI submissions are to be received prior to 10:00am (Queensland, Australia Time) Monday, 28 March 2016.
