Minister Micah hands over to Minister Duma: a “win-win”

January 27, 2016

Hon. Ben Micah today handed over the portfolio of Public Enterprise and State Investments to Hon. William Duma.

The handover ceremony took place at Crowne Plaza Hotel before an audience that included the heads of the eleven State Owned Enterprises over which Minister Duma now presides as the incoming Minister for Public Enterprise and State Investments.

The handover follows the recent appointment of Hon. Ben Micah as Minister for Petroleum and Energy.

Hon. William Duma was formerly the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH) Paul Nerau said that the change of Ministers was a win-win for Papua New Guinea.

“Minister Micah takes a wealth of experience and achievement to his new Petroleum and Energy portfolio, while Minister Duma brings similar expertise to Public Enterprise and State Investments.”

“In particular Minister Duma’s experience in infrastructure development will be a huge asset as KCH continues to roll out projects such as Ramu 2, the Lakatoi Precinct Project and the Port Moresby Sewerage System Upgrade project.”

Mr Nerau also praised the performance of the outgoing Minister Ben Micah.

“Under the leadership of Hon. Ben Micah we witnessed unprecedented development in our SOEs and State Investments. At the launch of Kumul Consolidated Holdings on December 1, Minister Micah provided a very concise summary of his achievements during the term of his Ministry from August 2012 until now.”

“Minister Micah successfully implemented the Kumul agenda; he facilitated the move of the Port Moresby Wharf to Motukea and the expansion of the Lae Wharf which will allow for the further expansion of the PNG economy.”

“During his Ministry the cumulative asset value of all SOEs that are vested with the General Business Trust managed by KCH has expanded from K5 billion in 2012 to now over K20 billion.”

“Minister Micah’s contribution to our country has indeed been monumental.”

To commemorate Minister Micah’s term of office Chairman of KCH Mr Paul Nerau presented Minister Micah with three frames – one commemorating the launch of Kumul Consolidated Holdings; one commemorating the Lae Port Project and one containing his final speech as Minister for Public Enterprise and State Investments, made at the launch of KCH on December 1, 2015.
